Main Street Cafe scheduled to reopen in Crystal City’s Twin City Mall

Main Street Cafe will temporarily take over the old Pizza Hut location, 203 S. Truman Blvd., in Crystal City.

Main Street Cafe will temporarily take over the old Pizza Hut location, 203 S. Truman Blvd., in Crystal City. The cafe owners hope to rebuild at the old site where their building was found to be unstable.

The owners of Main Street Cafe plan to reopen their business on Aug. 13 at 203 S. Truman Blvd., in the space in the Twin City Mall in Crystal City where a Pizza Hut formerly operated.

Chris and Melissa Hodges, the Main Street Cafe owners, said they are busily working to make a temporary home for their eatery in the mall after structural problems forced them on July 3 to close their restaurant at 902 N. Truman Blvd., also in Crystal City.

The Hodges own the building where Main Street Cafe used to operate and will rent the space in the Twin City Mall.

Melissa said on Monday that she and her husband intend to eventually move back to the property they own at 902 N. Truman Blvd. but needed to find a place to operate the restaurant until repairs can be made to the other building.

“This is temporary, maybe for a year,” she said. “We hope to go back to the old location. We’re still working with insurance.”

After noticing problems with their building, the Hodges contacted the Crystal City Building and Planning Department, which determined that the walls supporting the structure had moved.

Melissa said the space in the Twin City Mall will accommodate approximately the same number of tables as the building they own.

“We put the tables in (Sunday) night and (the new location) will hold about 24 tables,” she said.

However, Chris acknowledged that the dining space will be a little tighter fit than in the 902 N. Truman Blvd. location.

“It’s going to be a little cramped, but we’ll make it work,” he said.

Melissa said Main Street Cafe will have limited staff for a while after it reopens in the new space while she and her husband try to replace staff they lost when the restaurant closed its doors.

“At first we’ll just be open for breakfast and lunch,” she said. “Our hours are going to be 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. We had been open until 8 p.m. at the old location (except for Sundays when it would close earlier).”
