Owners of The Hangry Hub food truck saw a call to help flash flooding victims in Southeast Missouri and helped organize a Jefferson County collection.

As much as 12 inches or more of rain fell within a matter of hours July 10-11 in the areas of Crawford, Iron, Madison, Reynolds, and Wayne counties, resulting in a 1-in-1,000-year rainfall event in some of these locations, according to Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe’s office.

Adam Bosler and partner Nikki Hall, owners of the Herculaneum-based Hangry Hub, responded to an online plea for assistance July 11, getting a collection together for Southeast Missourians the next day at the Herculaneum Buchheit store parking lot.

Bosler said Rachel Allbright posted a message online about the need to help the flash flooding victims.

“I reached out to her, and she joked, ‘I’m just a girl with a truck and trailer,’ Bosler said in a written statement. “As a father to a young adult, I immediately knew she would need a lot more support with some experienced drivers and logistics personnel. We know all too well what this community is capable of.

“I was able to acquire a flatbed trailer donated by David and Heather Bailey of Quality Construction, who also donated money for us to make purchases to donate to the relief efforts. Two additional drivers volunteered to assist with their own equipment as well. Both are local business owners.”

Bosler said the public responded in droves to online pleas for contributions and four trailer loads of water, food, clothes, hygiene items and other supplies were collected July 12 at the Herculaneum Buchheit store parking lot. The items were driven to the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department that afternoon.

Other participants in the Jefferson County effort included Buchheit, Green Top Mowing, Drain Rescue and A-1 Truck & Auto.

“We sent out a message on Facebook after Rachel had put out a message,” Bosler said. “We collected four trailer loads.

“I’m not the least bit surprised at what my community is capable of. But it was incredible.”

He said another collection may take place during the upcoming weekend, but details had not yet been established. For more information, visit The Hangry Hub page on Facebook.
