The Braided Bakery, 126 E. Main St., in Festus recently began selling some of its fare in the cafeteria and Comfortable Cup Cafe at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City.
“We started April 2,” said Abbie Barton, the Braided Bakery’s owner and operator. “It’s going very well.”
Barton said she delivers her delicacies to the hospital any day the Bakery is open for business, which is Tuesday through Friday.
“Every day, we drop off a shipment of pretzel dogs before lunch,” Barton said. “Those are delivered fresh for their lunch rush. We also provide them with bagels. At the coffee cafe, they are selling our challah bread.
“We’re bringing sweet rolls and cookies periodically, whenever our schedule allows to get extra stuff to them.”
Barton said a Mercy Jefferson Hospital representative, Danielle Isaac, contacted her to see if she would be interested in selling the Braided Bakery goods at the hospital.
“I was the one who reached out to them,” said Isaac, Mercy Jefferson’s manager of support services. “We have a lot of people who like to see new things coming in.”
Isaac said the Braided Bakery foods have been a hit with customers at the hospital’s cafeteria and café.
“From the day she started selling the pretzel dogs, they sold out every day,” Isaac said. “The day she first brought in the pretzel dogs, she brought in 96. That’s a lot for someone to bring in, but it sold out.”
