The Northwest girls wrestling team won the District 1 championship in Hillsboro on Saturday.
The Lions scored 154 points and will send six wrestlers to the Missouri State High School Activities Association state championships at the Mizzou Arena in Columbia on Feb. 20-22. Seckman finished seventh with 83 points and had three wrestlers qualify for state. De Soto was eighth with 57 points and undefeated defending state champion Jaycee Foeller (43-0) returns to state, this time at 166 pounds.
The following is a list of the girls wrestlers from the county who qualified for state: Northwest senior Jillian Ems (35-8, second place, 103 pounds); Windsor junior Reilly Baughman (22-6, third, 110); Seckman senior Reese Wingbermuehle (20-10, second, 115); Seckman senior Corrine McClure (40-5, first, 120); Northwest senior Summer Smith (27-16, fourth, 120); Seckman junior Madison Conrad (27-9, second, 125); Northwest freshman Lily Shaffrey (35-4, first, 130); Northwest senior Taylor Murphey (39-2, first, 135); De Soto junior Jaycee Foeller (33-0, first, 166); Northwest sophomore Keigan Newhouse (20-13, fourth, 166); (Northwest sophomore Olivia Buckley (32-14, third, 187).
