The fall prep sports season is winding down.

The Warriors travel to Jackson to play in the Class 5 District 1 championship on Friday. It’s the second straight year Fox and the Indians will compete for that title. The Lions play Lindbergh on Tuesday in Cedar Hill in the Class 4 sectionals. The Hawks are in Bonne Terre on Tuesday to play North County in the Class 3 sectionals.

On Saturday, four teams from the Leader coverage area finished in the top four at the state cross country championships at Gans Creek in Columbia. The Festus boys won their sixth consecutive Class 3 championship and eighth since 2009. Since moving to Class 3 in 2017, the Herculaneum boys have finished among the top four teams in the state. This year the Blackcats were second to the Tigers. The De Soto girls finished second in Class 3 a year after coming in fourth place. And the Eureka girls won their first state plaque since 2013, with a third-place finish in Class 4.

The St. Pius X volleyball team sought its fourth state championship while competing in the Class 2 final four at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau on Friday and Saturday. The Lancers last won the state title in 2017, but fell to Hermann on Saturday in the championship match. The Bearcats have won 14 state crowns, the most of any team.
