Loyd a freshman, and Govreau, a senior, broke the school record for aces this season. As of Monday, Loyd had 55 aces and Govreau 47. That re-set the record of 43 held by Caitlyn Wehner and Mackenzie Null in 2013 and Tracey Price in 2016. The Blue Jays won 30 matches last year and beat St. Pius X to reach the Class 2 District 2 championship. This season, Jefferson is 21-8 and Loyd and Govreau have played in all 60 games.
“Abby’s goal this summer was to improve her serving,” Jefferson head coach Tara Fish said. “She has always been a strong server and this season has proved it even more. Kirstyn comes into the program with the pressure of learning how to be a setter for the first time, but it hasn’t shaken her one bit which is obvious in her strong serve breaking the record.”
Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Athletico, with locations in Eureka, Fenton, House Springs, Arnold and Festus.
