The Rev. Robert Thomas Winter, 90, of Festus died Sept. 2, 2019, at his home. The Rev. Winter was a pastor at multiple churches from Texas to Missouri, beginning with Flat Gap Baptist Church in Flat Gap, Tenn. He served as interim pastor at several churches, including First Baptist Church of Hillsboro and Belew’s Creek. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Festus/Crystal City and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Born June 10, 1929, in Dysart, Iowa, he was the son of the late Thomas De Roy and Lennora (Ford) Winter. He was preceded in death by his wife: Peggy Louise Winter.
He is survived by six sons: Kim Winter of Ft. Lauderdale, Texas, Mike (Denise) Winter of Ravenna, Texas, Robert A. (Anita) Winter of Wetumpka, Ala., James Logan (Kindra) Winter of Springfield, Paul D. Winter of Grandin and Rickey D. (Kim) Winter of Festus; three daughters: Cindy Bayer of Poplar Bluff, Lisa Kay (Kris) Kirby of Spicewood, Texas, and Peggy Sue “Susie” Thomas of Affton; two brothers: Paul Winter of Santa Fe, N.M., and Don Winter of Austin, Texas; a sister: Helen Logan of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 13 grandchildren: Melissa, Nicole, Kyle, John, David, Joe, Austin, Brannon, Christian, Logan, Sam, Jessica, Austin, Mike, Katy, Kyleah, Caleb, Kayla, Travis, Jeremy, Conan, Justin, Austin, Madison and Brooke; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Meredith and James Winter; a sister: Merle Hartzler; a grandson: Zach Winter; and a granddaughter: Lindsey Winter.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at Robert D. Brown Funeral Home, 103 S. Fourth St., in Hillsboro. Visitation is at 9:30 a.m. and a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at First Baptist Church of Festus Crystal City. Burial will follow at Good Hope Cemetery in Grandin. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Smile Train. Arrangements were under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home.
