Ovela Adeline “Sissy” Ferguson, 82, Festus died May 21, 2020, at Fountainbleau Nursing Home in Festus. She was born June 23, 1937, in Festus, the daughter of the late Wilbur Lee and Trula Adeline (Wray) Ferguson. She contracted polio at age 5, leaving her with a lifetime of physical handicap, yet, she personified joy, faith, strength and courage. She was baptized Dec. 16, 1984, at First Baptist Church in De Soto by her nephew, the late Rev. Rick Ferguson.
She is survived by a sister: Charlotte (Donald) Ferguson-Sutton of Victoria, Texas; a sister-in-law: Valene Ferguson of Festus; 11 nieces and nephews; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by five siblings: Lavern Ferguson, Irvin Ferguson, Robert Ferguson, Hilda Johnson-Tharp and the Rev. Wilbur “Menk” Ferguson; and a nephew: the Rev. Rick Ferguson.
Funeral services and burial were private. Memorials may be made to the Lebanon Baptist Cemetery Fund. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
