Michael B. Klaus, 73, of De Soto died Aug. 31, 2019, at NHC Health Care in Desloge. Mr. Klaus was primary agent for Mike Klaus State Farm Insurance Agency in De Soto for the last 41 years and was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal City. A graduate of De Soto High School and Central Missouri State, he served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, he worked as a riverboat captain driving barges up and down the Mississippi River. He was a music major who could play almost any instrument, and liked to gift his grandchildren with harmonicas to play along with him. Born July 29, 1946, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Eugene “Bud” and Dorothy Ellen (Jett) Klaus.
He is survived by his wife: Terri (Eck) Klaus, whom he married March 4, 1973, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in De Soto; three daughters: Anne (Ryan) Carl of Canonsburg, Pa., Jennifer (Josh) McCabe of Oakville and Libby (Walt) Schwarzenbach of Kirkwood; a sister: Patty (George) Alvord of Memphis, Tenn.; two brothers: Dan (Wanda) Klaus of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Bob (Melissa) Klaus of San Antonio, Texas; a brother-in-law: Bob (Susan) Eck of Tulsa, Okla.; and seven grandchildren: Sophie, Charlie, Emma, Claire, Kyle, Michael and Rosie.
He was preceded in death by a grandson: Nolan McCabe.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 220 Brierton Lane, in Crystal City, officiated by the Rev. Kyle Castens. Burial is in the Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart.
