John Robert Davis, 73, of Liberty, died Jan. 11, 2020. Mr. Davis was a 1964 graduate of Festus High School, where he excelled in football, and went on to be the starting center for William Jewell College in Liberty, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He was a member of the school’s only undefeated season in 1967, and received the Col. Alexander Doniphan Award as outstanding senior in 1969. He served as president, CEO and chairman of Clay County Savings Bank board of directors, and was inducted into the Festus High School Hall of Fame. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching college sports, and spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Born Nov. 9, 1946, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Bloomer) Davis.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years: Sheryl Suderman, whom he married June 14, 1969; a brother: Bill (Sandra) Davis; a son: John (Bethany) Davis; a daughter: Jennifer (Chad) Harrison; and five grandchildren: Hailey, Hayden, Madelynn, Maleah and Evan.
Visitation is scheduled at 6p.m., followed by a celebration of life at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, I-35 State Route 291, in Liberty. Memorials may be made to the Mayo Clinic for research into progressive supranuclear palsy. Arrangements are under the direction of Park Lawn Northland Chapel in Liberty.
