John Marshall Bot, 84, of Springfield, formerly of Festus, died Sept. 6, 2019, in Springfield. Mr. Bot was a retired chief switchroom manager for the former Southwestern-Bell Telephone Co. and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed cutting wood, fixing cars and working with his hands. Born July 14, 1935, in Lisbon, N.D., he was the son of the late Gladys (Pindall) and John Henry Bot.
He is survived by his wife: Dolores Jane (Cook) Bot; four daughters: Julie R. (Tony) Brinkley of Farmington, Mitzi Bot of Asheboro, N.C., Jill (Mark) Sellers of Springfield and Marcy (Kevin) Baron of Springfield; a sister: Joanne (Gene) Odegard of Roseville, Minn.; 13 grandchildren: Zachary Powers, Meagan Powers, Bekah (Joseph) Adkins, Amy (Alex) Magu, Savannah Auman, Samantha Sellers, Sheridan Sellers, Micah Bot, Olivia Baron, McKenna Baron, Adam Brinkley, Katryn Brinkley and Jake Brinkley; and a great-granddaughter: Meyer Adkins.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Ray (the late June) Bot, Elden (the late Benny) Bot, and Doug (Marie survives of Fargo, N.D.) Bot.
A graveside funeral service with full military honors was held Sept. 9 at Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
