Jesse James Jr., 95, of Festus died Sept. 1, 2019, at his home. Mr. James worked as a printer for Reynolds Graphics and the Christian Board of Publications in St. Louis, and after retiring worked for Wal-Mart, Commerce Bank and Alexander Office Supply in the Festus-Crystal City area. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Pacific Theater, and a member of American Legion Post 253, VFW Post 3777 and the Masonic Order . Born July 20, 1924, in Festus, he was the son of the late Alice (Jackson) and Jesse James Sr.
He is survived by his wife: Dorris (Baker) James; three daughters: Marsha (Albert) Haynes of Festus, Pamela James of Festus and Victoria Dixon of Webster Groves; a son: Lonnie (Tammy) James of Hillsboro; a daughter-in-law: Janet James of Tacoma, Wash.; five sisters: Thelma (the late Ray) Taylor of Herculaneum, Marva (the late Allen) Williams of Milwaukee, Wis., Alice (Benjamin) Manning of Festus, Janet (the late Charles) Cherry of Festus and Madeline (the late Ceasar) Swiney of Indio, Calif.; two brothers: Cecil (Senaida) James of Bakersfield, Calif., and Gene (Jessica) James of Topeka, Kan.; a sister-in-law: Evelyn James of Kirkwood; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Jesse James III and Darwin L. James; three sisters: Mary (the late Edgar) Smith, Patricia (the late Richard) Patton and Sandra (the late John) Oliver; and three brothers: Charles (the late Rose) James, Earl (the late Sue) James and Ronald James.
A memorial gathering is at 9 a.m. and a memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Burial with full military honors will be in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
