Jackson Julius Schmitt, 7, of Barnhart died July 20, 2019, in St. Louis. Jackson was a student at Freer Elementary School in Barnhart and attended The Crossing Church in Fenton, where he volunteered in the nursery. He was a student at World Martial Arts Academy, and aspired to be a competitor on the American Ninja Warriors TV show. He participated in cancer research fundraising with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and was an animal lover, avidly following the stories of dogs rescued by Stray Rescue of St. Louis. He loved to read and go to the library, and enjoyed visiting family and friends in Muscatine, Iowa. He also loved music; his favorite song was “Sweet Child of Mine.” Born March 3, 2012, in St. Louis, he was the son of Carrie (Chick) and Michael Schmitt of Barnhart.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two siblings: Ivan and Grace Schmitt; his grandparents: Nancy Schmitt of St. Louis and Dennis and Cheryl Chick of St. Louis; and an uncle: Kevin Chick of New Orleans.
A celebration of Jackson’s life was held July 25 at The Crossing Church. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
