Hardeman “Hardie” Bond, 97, of Crystal City died July 27, 2019. Mrs. Bond was a retired teacher, having taught briefly in Hoene Springs, Eureka, Hillsboro and in Chula Vista, California, before settling into a 23-year career teaching in the Crystal City School District. She was a graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia and was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Crystal City. She also was a member of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association, the University of Missouri Alumni Association and Chapter FR of PEO. Born June 11, 1922, in Riverside, she was the youngest of six children born to the late Samuel Howard and Frances (North) Crowe. She was preceded in death by her husband: George H. Bond Jr.
She is survived by a daughter: Susan Bond Nardizzi of Crystal City; two grandchildren: twins Bradley and Katherine Nardizzi, both of New York, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by five siblings: Howard Crowe, Susie Bradley, Elizabeth Partney, Dr. John Crowe and Frances Patrick.
Visitation is scheduled from 1-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, with the 7 p.m. hour dedicated to those wishing to share memories or an anecdote about their experiences with Mrs. Bond. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Grace Presbyterian Church, 105 Bailey Road, in Crystal City, officiated by the Rev. Joshua Noah. Burial is in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Grace Presbyterian Church’s Friends of the Fountain. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
