Erwin Henry Vaeth, 92, of St. Johns, Fla., died Sept. 13, 2022, at Westminster Woods Retirement on Julington Creek in St. Johns. Mr. Vaeth was a retired typesetter with the St. Louis Post Dispatch. He was a member of San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church in Florida and Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Hillsboro as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Born Dec. 5, 1929, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Josephine (Fallert) and Henry Anthony Vaeth. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years: Norma Jean (Besand) Vaeth.
He is survived by five children: Terry (Wendy) Veath of Fairfield, Texas, Ronald (Connie) Vaeth of Hillsboro, Michael (the late Barbara) Vaeth of St. Johns, Fla., Denise (Larry) Ackerman of Summerville, S.C., and Jamie (Michael) Nelson of Bloomsdale; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two siblings: Anthony Vaeth and Arthur Vaeth; a daughter-in-law: Barbara S. Vaeth; and a grandson: Nicholas M. Vaeth.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church in St. Johns, officiated by Father Dilip. Burial is in the San Juan Del Rio Columbarium. Memorials may be made in the form of Masses in Mr. Vaeth’s honor at San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church in St. Johns or Good Shepherd Church in Hillsboro. Arrangements are under the direction of Hartage-Giddens Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Fla.
