Dorothy Maire Cowan, 85, of Imperial died Jan. 23, 2014, at her home. Mrs. Cowan was a retired cafeteria supervisor in the Windsor School District and a member of the VFW Post 3777 Auxiliary.
Born Aug. 2, 1928 in Old Mines, she was the daughter of the late Emma (Huskey) and Joseph Ernest “Pope” Bourisaw. She was preceded in death by three husbands: William Legens, Lloyd Senter and Elmer “Dale” Cowan.
She is survived by two sons: Robert (Cindy) Legens of Herculaneum and Michael (Nancy) Cowan of Imperial; one brother: Roscoe Bourisaw of Crestwood; one sister, Jean (Dale) Hendrickson of Moscow Mills; five grandchildren: Robert (Debbie) Legens Jr., Lisa Legens, Thomas (Angela) Legens, Shawn (Adrienne) Legens and Jason (Amanda) Legens; and nine great-grandchildren: Timothy Robert, Isabella Louise, Melissa Robin, Genevieve Marie, Katelyn Nicole, Austin William, Nathan, Grant Michael and Jordyn Ruth Legens.
She was also preceded in death by one sister-in-law: Joan Bourisaw.
Funeral services were Jan. 25 at Vinyard Hillcrest Funeral Home, Pevely, officiated by the Rev. Ed Bragg. Burial was in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association.
