David Joseph Mehl, 64, of De Soto died Jan. 12, 2020, at John Cochran VA Hospital in St. Louis. Mr. Mehl was a former salesman with Rhodes Furniture in St. Louis and a lifetime member of the Amvets. He was a Vietnam veteran, formerly serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. Born Jan. 3, 1956, in Portsmouth, Ohio, he was the son of the late Cecil and Laura (Hibbs) Mehl.
He is survived by his wife: Kathy Marie (Statler) Mehl; four children: Jennifer Lynn Mehl of Bonne Terre, David J. Mehl Jr. of De Soto, Kristin (Tim) Kelly of Denver, Colo., and Ann (Ricky) Hunt of Carbondale, Ill.; four grandchildren: Jessica Evans, Aiden Baker, Emily Power and Sophie Boofer; and his mother-in-law: Virginia Statler of Belleville, Ill.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Gerald Wayne Mehl.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Kassly Mortuary, 900 St. Clair Ave., in Fairview Heights, Ill. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Hal Santos. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Arrangements are under the direction of Kassly Mortuary.
