Calvin Henry George Lindwedel, 93, of Hillsboro died Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at Crystal Oaks Nursing Home in Crystal City. Mr. Lindwedel enlisted in the U.S. Army on Dec. 15, 1944, and served in the southern Philippines campaign during WWII until he was honorably discharged on Nov. 12, 1946. He was a retired dairy farmer and a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, the Lutheran Laymen League and a life member of VFW 3777. Born Oct. 30, 1925, in Kimmswick, he was the son of the late Emma A. (Christ) and Henry W. Lindwedel. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Evelyn Katherine (Klund) Lindwedel.
He is survived by his wife: Priscilla Jean (Decke) Pooker-Lindwedel; three sons: Ray (Cloice) Lindwedel of Hillsboro, Wayne (Marsha) Lindwedel of Hillsboro, Dennis (Charlotte) Lindwedel of Festus; two brothers: William (Patricia) Lindwedel of Pevely, Henry ( Esther) Lindwedel of Pevely; five grandchildren: Penny (Justin) Perriguey, Tracy (Eli) Parkhurst, Katherine Lindwedel, William Lindwedel and Margaret "Maggie" Lindwedel; three step-daughters: Brenda (Kriby) Thowe of Texas, Cheryl (Dan) Traub of Kansas, Marci (Joe) Reagan of Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters: Gladys (the late Lloyd) Becker and Esther (the late Elmer) Held; one brother: Harold (the late Verna) Lindwedel; and one grandson: Bryan Lindwedel.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today, Aug. 1, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Zion Lutheran Church, 9700 Zion Lutheran Church Road, in Hillsboro, officiated by Pastor Mark Harriss.
