Ben Manning, 84, of Festus died March 13, 2020 at his home. Mr. Manning had worked at Doe Run Lead Co. in Herculaneum for 42 years and was a custodian at Herculaneum High School. He enjoyed shopping for bargains at the Pevely Flea Market, Goodwill and other rummage shops in town. Born May 31, 1935, in Shirley, he was the son of the late Malissa (Bryant) and Richard Manning.
He is survived by his wife: Alice Faye (James) Manning; three sons: Johnny Manning of Yucaipa, Calif., George Manning of Henderson, Nev., and Matthew Manning of Crystal City; a daughter: Melody Manning of Springfield; a stepdaughter: Linda Padgitt of Festus; a brother: George Manning of Webster Groves; two sisters: Dora Anderson of Herculaneum and Charlene Townsend of Festus; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Graveside services were held March 21 at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City, with words of encouragement by Pastor Pete Ruble and a eulogy by Bishop Ronald Luellen. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
