Arnold “Tom” Brown, 89, of Festus died Jan. 10, 2020, at Festus Manor Nursing Center. Mr. Brown was a retired bricklayer for PPG Industries in Crystal City. A graduate of Perryville High School, he served in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic. He was a member of New Testament Baptist Church in Festus, Shekinah Masonic Lodge in Crystal City, a founding member of the Jefferson County Bowmen Club and a former Scoutmaster in the R-7 area. Born July 1, 1930, in St. Mary, he was the son of the late Flora Mae (Roth) and Jennings Brown.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years: Mary (Howard) Brown.
He is survived by a daughter: LaConja Herrick of Ballwin; two sons: John (Julie) Brown of House Springs and Ira (Bobbi) Brown of Viburnum; four brothers: Bill (Wanda) Brown of Kansas City, Charles Brown of Huffman, Texas, Burton (Sonja) Brown of Minnith and Ray (Susie) Brown of Minnith; six grandchildren: Terri McMinn, Conrad Bays, Kayla (Ricky) Chisholm, Kyle (Kayla) Thompson, Zerek Brown and Arik Brown; and seven great-grandchildren: Ellieaunna Thompson, Mark, Jase and Kolton Herrin, Karmen McMinn, Courtney Cumming and Rocco Chisholm.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a daughter: Betty (the late Marshall) Broglin; a sister: Beulah Mae Brown; and a sister-in-law: Dorothy Brown.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus, immediately followed by funeral services officiated by Terry Crank. Burial with full military honors will be in the Brown Family Cemetery in Minnith. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
