Two men have been taken into custody in connection with a double shooting this afternoon (Jan. 25) in Barnhart. One of the victims was taken to the hospital with a serious injury, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The men were arrested at a home near Hwy. Z and Jarvis Road. The Sheriff’s Office will not release the names of the suspects unless charges are filed, the department said.
Deputies were called at 12:13 p.m. to a home in the 7000 block of Albermarle Court in Barnhart after two gunshots were heard there. When deputies arrived, they found one man who had been shot in the torso and another man who had been grazed by a bullet. The man who had been shot in the torso was taken to an area hospital, where he was in critical but stable condition this evening, the report said.
Authorities believe the two men who were arrested and a woman showed up at the home on Albermarle Court this afternoon, and at least one of the three had an encounter with men inside the home. During the interaction, at least two gunshots were fired. The three people who showed up at the house then left the area, according to the report.
The vehicle the men and the woman left in has not been identified, and the Sheriff’s Office is still trying to locate the woman believed to be involved in the incident, the report said.
The Sheriff’s Office said the shooting was not random, and Sheriff Dave Marshak posted on Twitter that Barnhart residents do not need to be concerned about their safety following the shooting.
The Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident, and anyone with information should contact the department at 636-797-5515.
