Fox 5K

There’s no rain in the weather forecast Sunday (Oct. 25), so don’t miss out on the first-ever Fox 5K and 1-mile Fun Run/Walk at Arnold City Park on Bradley Beach Road, off Jeffco Boulevard near the Meramec River.

People may still sign up in person during the packet pickup today (Oct. 24) or before the start of the race, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the park.

The packet pickup will be from noon to 4 p.m. today at the Fleet Feet South County store, 12494 Tesson Ferry Road.

The 5K will start at 9 a.m., and the run/walk at 10 a.m. Entry is $20 for the 5K and $10 for the 1-mile.

Proceeds will benefit the C-6 Educational Foundation, a nonprofit group that provides educational and welfare grants to benefit students throughout the district.

Free water, coffee, bananas and goody bags filled with coupons and other surprises will be handed out at the event.

The overall male and female finishers in the 5K each will receive a trophy, and medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each of the 5K age categories.

A "Fitness Champs" trophy will be awarded to the Fox district school that brings the largest number of students, staff, parents and others to the event. Fox school teams, clubs and organizations also may use the event as a fundraiser, soliciting donations for their participation in the 5K or run/walk.

Fox High School Concert Choir member Morgan Raney, a senior and soprano, will sing the national anthem before the 5K starts. And, four Seckman High band students are scheduled to perform. The jazz combo includes senior Paige Schneider on alto/tenor saxophone, junior Taylor Walker on alto sax, sophomore Nathan Lee on trumpet and freshman Kendal Blumenthal on alto sax.

Rock Community Fire Protection District will be there with a firetruck for kids to explore, and an Arnold Police Officer Rich Knuth will be there with his police dog.

Texas Roadhouse will be there with its mascot, Andy the armadillo, and will offer a game for kids to play. Also, the restaurant will hand out appetizer cards and other items.

While the family-friendly event will feature a lot of fun activities, serious runners will like it, too, because the course is not only flat and fast, but also scenic, since it winds through the park and along the Meramec River.

Fleet Feet is handling chip timing.
