A vacant house in the 3800 block of Lonedell Road near Rustic Valley Lane in the Arnold area was destroyed by fire this morning (Nov. 6), says Ron Harder, a spokesman for the Rock Community Fire Protection District.

At around 7 a.m., someone driving past the home noticed smoke and reported it, Harder said.

There were no utilities to the house, and it appeared no one lived there, he said.

When the first firefighters arrived on the scene, smoke was visible, Harder said.

It took about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze, but firefighters were on the call for about one and a half hours, tearing out walls and looking for possible “hot spots,” he said.

The fire appeared to have started in the basement and spread up the walls into the attic, Harder said.

“We were able to contain it to that structure,” he added.

Harder said Rock Fire investigators, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office arson investigators and the state Fire Marshal’s Office are looking into the fire.

“They’re trying to determine a cause, and it remains under investigation,” he said today.
