A 54-year-old Farmington man and a 47-year-old Leadwood man were arrested for allegedly stealing fireworks from a stand at Stockham’s Gas Mart, 11845 Hwy. CC, in the Festus area. The theft happened at about 1:30 a.m. June 23, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The Sheriff’s Office got a call about a burglary in progress at the fireworks stand, and when deputies arrived, the two men reportedly ran into a nearby wooded area. The man allegedly had damaged two plywood doors on the side of the stand and stole eight boxes of fireworks, altogether valued at $939.70, the report said.
Deputies found the two men and arrested them. They were taken to the Jefferson County Jail, where they were booked and released pending application for warrants, according to the report.
The Sheriff’s Office will seek charges against the two men through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for second-degree burglary, stealing, second-degree property damage and resisting arrest, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.
