Three cats were rescued from a home in the 5400 block of Oak Crest Drive in Imperial on Monday afternoon (June 10), said Ron Harder, spokesman for the Rock Community Fire Protection District.
Rock Fire was called at about 1:30 p.m. to the ranch-style home, initially believing someone was inside the burning house. However, after firefighters entered the home, they learned the person had already gotten out, Harder said.
The fire was brought under control at about 1:50 p.m., and the damage was contained to the home’s roof and attic, Harder said.
“There is a big hole in the roof,” he said.
The three cats and the two people who live in the home were not harmed by the fire, Harder said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
Harder said the Red Cross was called to assist the occupants, if needed.
The Antonia, Dunklin and Mehlville fire protection districts, the Rock Township Ambulance District and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office helped with the call, Harder said.
