A 30-year-old De Soto man turned himself into authorities this afternoon (Oct. 15) following a shooting at a Festus-area apartment, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
A 40-year-old man was found shot in the abdomen at about 12:20 p.m. today at an apartment in the 13000 block of Hwy. CC south of Festus, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.
The victim was rushed to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, Bissell said.
The suspected shooter turned himself into deputies at about 12:55 p.m. at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office’s headquarters at 400 First St. in Hillsboro. He was being interviewed this afternoon, and authorities will seek charges against him through the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office when the investigation concludes, Bissell said.
The victim and a woman were in the apartment when the suspect reportedly showed up at the home. The suspect and the woman know each other, but it is not known if the suspect had a relationship with the victim, Bissell said.
The suspect reportedly was carrying a shotgun, and there was an alleged altercation at the apartment, Bissell said.
He said he did not know what the altercation was about or how it started.
The woman reportedly ran from the apartment during the altercation and heard a gunshot shortly after leaving the apartment, Bissell said.
He said the victim’s hometown, and the age and hometown of the woman was not available this afternoon.
