Pevely Police are seeking a man who allegedly was acting suspiciously and led officers on a brief car chase Monday afternoon (Feb. 10), Capt. Larry Miller said the next day.

Miller said police had gotten reports about the SUV the man was driving being involved in suspicious activity in town.

“At 3:23 p.m. Feb. 10 an officer patrolling the Weier (mobile home community) saw a black Ford Explorer parked on the south end of Radnor Drive, next to woods,” he said. “When (the officer) pulled up behind the vehicle to see what was going on and turned on his lights for a traffic stop, the car took off and then got on northbound I-55. (The officer) terminated the chase. The plate came back ‘not on file.’”

That means the plate may be an old one from another vehicle, Miller said.

He said the incident followed earlier reports from residents of an apartment complex who had spotted the suspicious SUV in town.

He said anyone who sees the vehicle or suspicious activity is urged to call Pevely Police at 636-475-4498.
