Stephenie Dawne Carpenter, a Pevely Elementary School parent, suffered cardiac arrest and Tuesday morning (Dec. 19) at the school and died that day, authorities reported.
The 38-year-old Herculaneum woman is survived by her husband: David Lee Carpenter Sr.; five children: Kaitlyn C. Schuler, David L. Carpenter Jr., Kaylee M. Carpenter, Brooklynn E. Carpenter and Kylie A. Carpenter; and her parents: Cynthia S. and Paul J. Schuler, according to her obituary on the Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions website.
Dunklin R-5 School District spokesman Matt Lichtenstein confirmed today (Dec. 22) that Carpenter was the district parent who had a medical emergency on school grounds. Carpenter was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital Jefferson later the morning of Dec. 19, a hospital spokesman said.
The Dunklin School District released a written statement Dec. 19 that said the Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District, the Pevely Police Department, the Dunklin Fire Protection District and the Dunklin school resource officer responded to the emergency.
“We responded to a call for a person in cardiac arrest,” said Curt Stueve, the JPAD administrator. “We got there and found (the patient) in cardiac arrest. We administered advanced life-saving measures and transported (the patient) to Mercy Hospital Jefferson.”
