Two men and a juvenile male were arrested after a police chase ended early this morning (Dec. 5) in Arnold. However, authorities are still seeking another man who evaded police and is believed to be armed, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.

At 2:45 a.m., after Arnold Police got reports about people stealing from vehicles in subdivisions off Lonedell Road, officers encountered a 2014 Ford Focus near the intersection of Robinhood Drive and Lonedell Road. The Focus matched the description of a car that was reported stolen from Northwoods in north St. Louis County. The car also reportedly had been spotted at about 1:30 a.m. on Meramec Bottom Road in south St. Louis County and was suspected to be involved in thefts from vehicles there, Sheriff’s Office Capt. Gary Higginbotham said.

Arnold Police attempted to stop the car, but the driver fled and the pursuit began, with assistance from the Sheriff’s Office. Eventually, the Focus ran into an Arnold Police vehicle and a Sheriff’s Office vehicle at Astra Way and Hwy. 141, and four suspects tried to run away, Higginbotham said.

However, at 2:47 a.m., the two men and the juvenile were apprehended in the 1700 block of Astra Way. A fourth suspect – the man authorities believe is armed – escaped, and authorities continued to search the area, Higginbotham said.

At 8 a.m., Sheriff Dave Marshak posted on Twitter that a bloodhound had picked up what authorities believe was the fourth suspect’s scent, but then the track the police dog was following ended at a nearby road. Authorities believe the suspect was picked up by an associate and left the area, Sheriff’s Office public information coordinator Grant Bissell said.

Bissell also said the method the four people used to allegedly steal or try to steal from unlocked vehicles is similar to what other recent thefts and attempted thefts in Jefferson County. However, he said it was too early to connect any of the suspects from this morning's chase to those previous incidents.

Higginbotham said no one was injured during the pursuit or when the Focus hit the police vehicles. He also said some items believed to have been stolen were found in the Focus.
