Eureka Police arrested a 22-year-old Marble Hill man for allegedly punching several holes in a wall at the Super 8 hotel, 1733 W. Fifth St. The man was renting a room at the hotel and damaged one of the walls in it, but no estimate for the damage was available, Eureka Police reported.

An officer was called to the hotel at about 11:30 a.m. Aug. 20, and an employee told the officer the man who caused the damage was in the lobby. The officer found the man and said he had bruising on his hands consistent with someone who had punched something, the report said.

The officer also said the man allegedly told the officer he punched the wall because people were chasing him and God told him to strike the wall to get out of the room. The man was evaluated by EMS personnel and then released into the officer’s custody, according to the report.

The officer arrested the man and took him to the Eureka Police Station. However, the man appeared distressed at the station and was taken to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur for further evaluation, Eureka Police reported

The man was issued a summons to appear in Eureka Municipal Court for alleged property damage, Lt. Michael Tapp said.
