An older woman died following a fire at an apartment in the 1800 block of Gravois Road in High Ridge late Saturday afternoon (March 6), High Ridge Fire Protection District Captain John Barton said.

Barton said firefighters were dispatched at 4:50 p.m. to the apartment and arrived on the scene at 4:53 p.m. Shortly after they arrived, a neighbor told firefighters a woman was still inside.

Barton said firefighters got the woman out of a front room in the apartment at 5:01 p.m., but paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene a short time later, High Ridge Fire reported in a written statement.

The cause of the fire had not been determined as of today (March 8).

The fire was not considered suspicious, but as of today, the Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office was still investigating it, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.

Bissell said the woman’s identity had not been confirmed as of today.

The Saline Valley, Eureka, Fenton, Mehlville and Valley Park fire protection districts helped with the call. The North Jefferson County Ambulance District responded to the scene, too.
