Fire from a burning wood pile in the 2300 block of Jim Weber Road in Eureka spread to and damaged a nearby van and outbuilding on Saturday (Oct. 21), Eureka Fire Protection District public information officer Scott Barthelmass said. Eureka Fire was called to the scene at 7:36 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 21) after the fire got out of control, a report said.
Barthelmass said the first truck was on the scene at 7:48 p.m. and the fire was reported to be under control by 7:56 p.m. “It is kind of a remote area,” Barthelmass said. “They had the fire knocked down in about eight minutes. That was pretty good. It is a low-water, no-water area. We had to tank water in there.”
Barthelmass said no one was injured by the fire, and that it was “purely” accidental. He said there was a mobile home nearby, but it was protected.
“Our guys did a great job with our mutual-aid partners in knocking it down really quick,” Barthelmass said. “It is in area with limited access, and they got there in a relatively expedient amount of time for where it is at. Once they hit the scene, that is a phenomenal knockdown.”
The High Ridge, Fenton, Valley Park, Cedar Hill and Metro West fire protection districts, along with the North Jefferson Ambulance District, assisted with the call.
