The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of a car from outside an apartment complex in the 5200 block of Lakewood Terrace in Imperial. The victim told deputies she believes she had left her keys, including the key to the car, in the front door lock at her apartment, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The theft occurred between 12:15 a.m. and 9 a.m. Oct. 30, when someone stole the victim’s 2014 Volkswagen Jetta. The car was valued at $12,000, the report said.

The victim told deputies that at about midnight, someone knocked on her door and attempted to open it. A short time later she realized she could not find her keys and briefly looked for them. However, due to the late hour, she went back to sleep, according to the report.

After she woke later that morning, she found her car missing. As of Oct. 31, the car had not been recovered and no arrests had been made, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Grant Bissell said.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515.
