An early-morning blaze on Monday (Nov. 18) tore through a house in the 1400 block of Berry Dairy Road east of De Soto. No one was home at the time, De Soto Rural Fire Chief Tom Fitzgerald said.
“The owner was away hunting,” he said.
The De Soto Rural Fire Protection District got a call at 4:13 a.m. about the fire, Fitzgerald said.
“It was fully involved when we arrived,” he said. “It’s totally destroyed.”
He said the house in an isolated area, so there was little chance of it spreading to other buildings.
“It’s on a pretty good chunk of property,” Fitzgerald said.
He said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fitzgerald said firefighters remained on the scene until about 9:30 a.m.
The De Soto and Festus fire departments and the Hillsboro, Cedar Hill, Hematite, Potosi and Goldman fire protection districts helped with the call, as did the Valle Ambulance District.
