James Dane of Imperial won $1 million Dec. 4 in the Missouri Lottery’s 300 Million Cash Explosion Scratchers game.
Dane, who regularly plays Scratchers games, purchased his winning ticket at the Mobil On the Run, 3611 West Outer Road, in Arnold.
He told lottery officials he once met a $10 million Scratchers game winner who told him he always purchased two tickets at a time.
So, Dane followed the $10 million winner’s strategy and bought two tickets.
“I had a $30 winner from the week before,” Dane said. “I usually get my tickets from the same station and I needed gas, so I went in to pay and took my winner with me.”
He said the first of his two tickets was not a winner, but the second produced the $1 million prize.
In the most recent fiscal year, players in Jefferson County won more than $30 million Missouri Lottery prizes, the agency reported. Retailers in the county received more than $3.1 million in commissions and bonuses and an additional $7.8 million went to educational programs in the county.
