A St. Louis man was killed Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 8) in a traffic accident on Hwy. 67 just north of Buck Creek Road south of Festus, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 2:28 p.m., Brian L. Real, 43, of St. Louis was driving a 2005 Sterling heavy-tire truck north on the highway, and the vehicle ran off the right side of the highway, so he overcorrected, but then the truck ran off the left side of the road, where it hit a concrete median barrier, the report said.
Debris from the crash struck three southbound vehicles – a 1994 Ford F150 driven by Austin J. Souders, 19, of De Soto, a 2015 Scion XB driven by Joseph J. Weber, 44, of Bonne Terre and a 2008 Chevrolet Express van driven by Randy L. Stringer, 55, of Farmington, according to the report.
No injuries were reported for those three drivers.
Real, however, was taken by Survival Flight helicopter to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, where he was pronounced dead at 3:39 p.m., the report said.
He was not wearing a seat belt, and Souders, Weber and Stringer were wearing them, the patrol reported.
The big truck was totaled, and the other vehicles had minor damage, the report said.
