An Illinois man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and failure to register as a sex offender after he and a 15-year-old boy were injured in a single-car accident Saturday, July 23, on Old Lemay Ferry Road south of Schenk Road in Barnhart.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the 42-year-old man from Centralia, Ill., was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala north on Old Lemay Ferry Road at 1:28 p.m. when he lost control of the car and drove off the left side of the road, where it overturned.
The driver sustained moderate injuries and he was taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, the report said.
A passenger in his car, a 15-year-old boy, had minor injuries and was taken by Rock Township Ambulance to SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, the report said.
Updates on their conditions were not available.
The driver was arrested by Highway Patrol officers on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and failure to register as a sex offender.
He will not be named unless charges are filed against him.
The Highway Patrol does not release the names of juveniles involved in traffic accident.
Both the driver and passenger were wearing seat belts, the report said.
The Chevrolet was totaled in the accident, according to the report.
