A man killed this morning in a traffic accident on Hwy. 30 near Hwy. PP in High Ridge has been identified as Donald R. Riley, 65, Owensborro, Ind., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
At about 11:25 a.m., Riley was driving a 2009 Kenworth Construct T800 “push truck” – a truck attached to the back of a tractor-trailer hauling an oversized load – headed west on Hwy. 30 when the accident occurred, Sgt. Scott Miller of the patrol.
The patrol reported that the push truck began to swerve, and Riley attempted to brake. However, the push truck ran off the right side of the road, traveled across both lanes of westbound Hwy. 30 and went off the left side of the road before returning to the road and then again running off the right side, where it struck a sign, returned to the road and overturned, the report said.
Riley was pronounced dead at the scene by North Jefferson County Ambulance District personnel.
Neither the tractor nor the trailer overturned, Miller said.
Both westbound lanes of Hwy. 30 near Hwy. PP were closed to traffic following the accident.
As of 5:10 p.m., the highway had been reopened, the High Ridge Fire Protection District reported on its Facebook page.
Riley was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.
The Kenworth was totaled, the report said.
