A 32-year-old Hillsboro man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated on drugs and possession of six pills believed to be heroin following a one-car accident late Sunday evening (Dec. 22) on the southbound I-55 ramp to eastbound I-255 in south St. Louis County. The man was hurt in the wreck, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 7:45 p.m., the suspect was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic south on the ramp, and the car ran off the left side of the road, where it struck a guardrail and overturned, the report said.
He was moderately injured and taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, according to the report.
The man was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.
The car was totaled, the report said.
The patrol arrested the man at about 9:10 p.m. at the hospital for DWI on drugs, as well as felony possession of a controlled substance, according to the report.
