A 37-year-old High Ridge man died Sunday night (Feb. 9) after he was struck by an SUV and a car when he was walking in the traffic lanes of Telegraph Road in south St. Louis County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
Robert T. Kleist was pronounced dead at 7:48 p.m. at Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, the patrol said.
Kleist was reportedly walking on Telegraph Road at about 7 p.m. when two northbound vehicles hit him. A 2018 Chevrolet Suburban struck him first near Championship Boulevard, and then a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt ran over Kleist when it did not have time to stop or avoid him, Cpl. Dallas Thompson said.
The highway patrol did not arrest the drivers involved in the accident nor is it pursuing charges against them, Thompson said. The Suburban was driven by Anthony S. Andrews, 43, of St. Louis, and the Cobalt was driven by Violette M. Duncil, 22, of St. Louis, the patrol reported.
Both vehicles were driven away from the scene, the report said.
The drivers were both wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
