A 24-year-old Festus man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated following a one-car accident that happened Thursday afternoon (Oct. 17) on Mapaville Hematite Road at Plass Road near Mapaville. The man was seriously hurt in the accident, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 12:22 p.m., the man was driving a northbound 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, and it ran off the right side of the road, so he overcorrected, but then the car ran off the left side of the road, where it struck an embankment and utility pole, the report said.
The man was taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where he was listed in satisfactory condition Friday afternoon (Oct. 18), a hospital spokesman said.
He was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.
The car was totaled, the report said.
The highway patrol arrested the man later that afternoon at the hospital, according to the report.
