Fatal accident patrol patch

A St. Francois County woman was killed and a 15-year-old boy was hurt in a single-vehicle accident late Saturday morning (Oct. 9) on Hwy. 67 near Valles Mines.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Mary Weinkein, 66, of Bonne Terre was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tracker north on Hwy. 67 south of Mount Olive Road at 11:44 a.m. when the right rear tire blew out. She overcorrected to the left, and the SUV went off the left side of the road and overturned, throwing her out of the vehicle.

Weinkein was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel at 11:55 a.m., the report said.

A passenger in the SUV, a 15-year-old boy from Bonne Terre, sustained minor injuries and was taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, the report said.

An update on his condition was not available.

The Highway Patrol does not release the names of juveniles in its reports.

Weinkein was not wearing a seat belt but the teen was, the report said. The SUV was totaled.
