A Blackwell woman was hurt on New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31) in a two-vehicle accident on Hwy. 21 south of Mothershead Road southwest of De Soto, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 8:37 p.m., Emma K. Patt, 21, of Blackwell was driving a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire north on the highway and swerved to the right in an effort to avoid an animal in the road, and the car ran off the right side of the road. So, Patt overcorrected, and the car returned to the road but then crossed the centerline, where the front of a southbound pickup struck the right rear side of the car, which then ran off the left side of the road and struck a ditch, the report said.
Mark F. Rodgers, 26, of St. Louis was driving the pickup, a 2002 Toyota Tacoma. No injuries were reported for him.
Patt was moderately hurt and taken by Valle Ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
The car was extensively damaged, and the pickup was moderately damaged, the report said.
