traffic accident patrol patch

Two people, including a 4-year-old girl, were hurt in a two-vehicle traffic accident early Tuesday (June 25) on I-55 in the Mehlville area of St. Louis County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that Lucas Parish, 20, of Barnhart was driving a 1986 Nissan 300 ZX north on I-55 south of Butler Hill Road at 6:40 a.m. when, as traffic was slowing ahead of him, he failed to stop in time and ran into the rear of a 2017 Honda Pilot driven by Emily Fels, 33, of Arnold. The Nissan then traveled off the right side of the highway, where it ran into a rock bluff and overturned, the report said.

Fels was not reportedly injuried in the accident, but a passenger in her car, Lucy Flels, 4, of Arnold sustained minor injuries and was taken by car to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County. Parish suffered moderate injuries and was taken by the Mehlville Fire Protection District to Mercy Hospital South, the report said.

Both were treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.

All involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, the report said. The Nissan was totaled and the Honda had moderate damage.
