Skippy and Rufus, shown here in this April 2017 photo at their Crystal City home, have different personalities, owner Nicole Hillemeyer said.
“Skippy is the protector of the whole house. He notifies us if a car drives by or a leaf falls or a bird, a squirrel or a rabbit is in our yard,” Hillemeyer said. “Rufus is just laid back and sweet. Most of the time, they get along.”
Skippy, now 7, is a Jack Russell-dachshund mix and Rufus, now 8, is a Yorkie-poodle mix. Not pictured is Milly, 4, the family’s Maltese-poodle mix.
“Milly keeps the boys in line,” Hillemeyer said.
She said all the family’s dogs come from shelters.
“They are all rescues,” she said. “Rescues are the best!”
