Meaghan Portell of Festus submitted this photo of her family’s late dog, Cavi, playing in the snow when she was 14 years old.

Meaghan Portell of Festus said her family’s late dog, Cavi, was named after a type of car.

“My husband used to race at I-55 Raceway in the Pro 4 Stock Car division in a Chevy Cavalier,” Meaghan said. “He nicknamed it ‘The Cavi.’ When we got a dog, we named her Cavi.”

The family misses Cavi, who died in 2020, one week before she would have turned 15.

Cavi was a delight to her family and anyone who met her, Meaghan added.

“Cavi was the sweetest, most obedient, well-mannered dog a person could ask for,” Meaghan said. “We loved her so very much and will forever be grateful for what Cavi meant to us in our family.

“She was our happy door-greeter to the clients who would come in to the family-owned business out of our house (Salon Central). She loved them and they all loved her.

“She brought a tremendous amount of joy into our lives.”
