Members of the De Soto Gridiron Gang – De Soto High School’s football program boosters –
donated $1,200 to the school district to buy three “safety” football helmets for the Dragon football program. The presentation was made during the Aug. 16 De Soto Board of Education meeting.
Jerry Appleton, president of the group, said the money is targeted for Riddell Speedflex Helmets, which are “state-of-the art in technology that provides the safety advantages needed to help reduce concussions.”
He said the nonprofit group raises funds for Dragon football throughout the year with raffles and a trivia night. All profits benefit the De Soto football program, providing pregame meals for players and helping students from low-income families attend football camps and receive physicals.
