A thief with a sweet tooth recently stole ice cream and Hostess snack cakes from the Conoco station in the 1900 block of Hwy Z. in the Pevely area. The theft occurred just before midnight on May 26, when someone unlawfully entered the store and stole the items, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The victim told deputies she got a call at 11:57 p.m. from an alarm company that an alarm was sounding at the business. When she arrived on the scene, she found the front door open, but it looked like it was locked, the report said.
She also said she looked around the business and didn’t notice anything disturbed or missing. However, she reviewed surveillance footage from the incident, and it showed a man pull open the door, go inside and steal ice cream and snack cakes and then leave. The stolen food was valued at $15, according to the report.
The suspect is white with dark hair, and he looked to be between 30 and 40 years old. He was wearing a red St. Louis Cardinals shirt with “McGwire” and the No. 25 on the back, as well as baggy, black pants with white stripes and white tennis shoes, the report said.
As of June 2, no suspects had been identified, and there was no arrests, said Lt. Gary Higginbotham of the Sheriff’s Office. He asks anyone with information about the incident to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
