A pickup recently was stolen from outside a home on Castle Acres Road in the Festus area, after the culprit broke into the home to get the keys, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The theft occurred about 9:40 a.m. June 17, while the homeowners were out of town.

A security company called the Sheriff’s Office shortly after that about an alarm going off at the house, and a deputy responded and found a broken window on a rear door and a shovel handle lying next to the door, the report said.

The deputy contacted the homeowners, and one of them returned home and told deputies a red 2002 Chevrolet, single-cab, 4-by-4 pickup was missing. The homeowner also said that the keys, which had been hanging on a wall inside the door that had been broken into, were missing, according to the report.

Photos were taken of tire tracks that were left in a gravel portion of the driveway, and the photos were submitted as evidence, the report said.

The pickup was recovered June 19 in Paragould, Ark., said Capt. Ron Arnhart of the Sheriff’s Office.

As of Friday (June 26), though, there were no suspects or arrests, he said.

Arnhart urges anyone with information about the theft to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 636-797-5515.
