Pevely Police are investigating “a suspicious death” after a mushroom hunter found human remains at the edge of some woods near the 9000 block of Taylor Drive in Pevely on Sunday, April 23, Chief Mark Glenn said in a written statement.
At 7:20 p.m., Pevely got a call about the remains, responded to the area and secured the scene, the report said.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office detectives and crime scene investigators processed the scene, and the remains were taken to the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy was performed
As of this afternoon, April 25, the remains had not been positively identified and remain in the custody of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, according to the report.
Glenn would not say whether the remains were from a man or woman and would not comment further about the body other than to say it “was in a state of decay.”
He said Pevely Police and the Sheriff’s Office will work together on the “ongoing investigation.”
Anyone with information is urged to call Glenn at the Pevely Police Department at 636-475-5301.
